JACKSON, Wyo. — The countdown is on.
Election Day is Nov. 3. It’s been a busy campaign season with multiple contested races for high-profile local and state-level positions. Buckrail partnered with the League of Women Voters of Wyoming, Teton County Library, the Jackson Hole News&Guide and KHOL Radio to present a series of voter forums this autumn. Viewing the footage from these forums is a great way to get to know the people behind the names on the ballots.
County races
All six County Commissioner candidates shared their platforms to a packed auditorium. Hear from Karyn Chin (Dem.), Ali Dunford (Dem.), Luther Propst (Dem.), Melchor Dylan Moore (Rep.), Vicky O’Donoghue (Rep.) and Alex Muromcew (Ind.) in that conversation.
All three County Sheriff candidates participated in a conversation, sharing their diverging approaches to immigration enforcement and more. Hear from Matt Carr (Dem.), Eric Snow (Rep.) and Chris Glenn (Ind.) in that forum.
County Coroner candidates Katrina Clauson (Dem.) and Russell Nelson (Rep.) helped attendees understand the role in a spirited back-and-forth.
Folks vying for space on the County’s nonpartisan boards gathered for a special event. Teton County School District Trustee hopefuls Stephan Abrams, Reade Dornan, Keith Gingery and Ashley Sinclair got the evening rolling. Next up were St. John’s Hospital District Board of Trustees candidates Katharine Conover-Keller and Pam Cutler, who stated their case for increasing the hospital district’s mill levy. Brent Blue is also running for that board. The evening closed out with Teton Conservation District Supervisor candidate Cate Watsabaugh, who is running against David C. Adams, Lee Bauknight and Bob Lucas. Watsabaugh was joined by Teton Conservation District Executive Director Carlin Girard to discuss the continuation of the district’s mill levy.
County Assessor candidate Ashlee Nader (Dem.) participated in a solo interview about the position, as candidate Norman Mellor III (Rep.) was unable to attend the event.
Town Council
Four folks are vying for two open seats on Jackson’s Town Council: Gabriel Koerber, Jonathan Schechter, Jessica Sell Chambers and Alyson Spery. Candidates discussed topics including immigration enforcement, Flock camera surveillance, large-scale developments, parking and more.
Statewide considerations
Candidates competing to represent House District 23 in the Wyoming House of Representatives took turns stating their case. Shannon Brennan (Rep.) briefly introduced herself before incumbent candidate Liz Storer (Dem.) sat for an interview with media panelists.
That forum also provided an explanation of Ballot Proposition 1, “People’s Initiative to Limit Property Tax in Wyoming through a Homeowner’s Property Exemption.” News&Guide reporter Jasmine Hall provided some context regarding the process required to get a citizen-led initiative onto the ballot, followed by a debate between Prop. 1 advocate former State House Rep. Marti Halverson and opponent Better Wyoming Executive Director Nate Martin.
