JACKSON, Wyo. — After being appointed to Town Council last year, Alyson Spery has announced that she will run for a full four-year term.

Spery, a documentary filmmaker, applied to fill the vacancy left open by Arne Jorgensen when he was sworn in as mayor. She was the councilors’ unanimous choice out of five finalists.

“I’m grateful to our community for investing in me, and I feel a deep sense of gratitude and purpose to put that investment to good use,” Spery said in her campaign announcement. “Now I want to earn the voters’ support to continue serving the people of Jackson.”

In 20 years of living in Jackson, Spery has worked as a ski instructor, a social worker, a restaurant employee and a media producer, her announcement states. She noted that her time on Town Council has included learning about “everything from the Comp Plan to land development regulations to ensure she participates effectively in making policy decisions,” as well as demonstrating she is “not afraid to ask hard questions and bring different viewpoints.”

If elected, Spery said she intends to work on affordability improvements for the 90 Virginian Lane development and to make progress on workforce housing. Other campaign priorities include updating the Town of Jackson’s land development regulations, improving traffic and transportation, and working on a strategic budget for the Town.

“I love Jackson, and our community is so important to me,” Spery said. “With the voters’ support, I will continue ensuring our local government works well for all of us.”
