JACKSON, Wyo. — Katrina Clauson is adding her name to the list of candidates for Teton County Coroner for the upcoming election cycle. Clauson currently serves as a deputy coroner and has worked in the coroner’s office for six years. She said her experience working directly with the bereaved has shaped her vision for the role.

“My background and my view of the [role] is not only science-based but empathy-based,” Clauson told Buckrail. “In the work that we do, we’re not only working with the deceased, but also with the bereaved.”

Her campaign is focused on a platform emphasizing collaboration within the coroner’s office, expanded public health education around suicide and substance abuse, and increased support for the deputy coroners who handle most of the county’s death investigations.

“I’m going to champion the people that I work with, and keep screaming into that void.” Clauson closed. “The deputies do so much work here.”

Clauson went on to cite her concerns about substance-related deaths, and mentioned that the party culture of Jackson creates challenges that might require greater awareness and prevention.

Among her other priorities if elected, she discussed expanding cooling storage capacity and improved technology and facilities. For Clauson, those infrastructure improvements are tied to the dignity of those who have died.

Others running for Teton County Coroner include David Hodges, Krista Nethercott and Russell Nelson.
