JACKSON, Wyo. — As the November 2026 General Election approaches, more candidates have announced bids. Funeral Director, part owner and embalmer at Grand Teton Funeral Home and Cremation Krista Nethercott has added herself to the ballot for Teton County Coroner this year.
Nethercott said her experience working directly with grieving families is what motivated her to enter the race.
“I serve my community already on a 24/7 basis,” Nethercott told Buckrail. “The biggest reason I want to run is there’s something to be said for people dealing with an unexpected death. They’re already distraught, and I think it’s very important for somebody to go from point A at the coroner’s office to the funeral home with continuity and compassion.”
Nethercott also pointed to potential equipment and facility improvements within the coroner’s office, including updating aging equipment used to transport bodies and creating a more comfortable space for families identifying loved ones.
While discussions around potential new facilities have surfaced, Nethercott said she believes collaboration with existing local resources should be explored before major spending decisions are made.
“Do you really have to spend $2.5 million for a new building when you can work together with existing resources?” she said. “That’s our tax money. Maybe we do need a new building, but maybe now is not the time to do it.”
Nethercott also said she would prioritize accountability and careful handling of personal belongings after death, as well as maintaining services for individuals who die without identified next of kin, where the county currently budgets for cremation services.
If elected, Nethercott would be the first woman to serve as Teton County Coroner since the county was established in 1921.
