JACKSON, Wyo. — Joining a deep field of candidates for the Teton County Board of County Commissioners, Alex Muromcew has announced that he is running for the position as an Independent.
Muromcew, a finance professional, serves as the vice chair of the Teton County Planning Commision. In his campaign announcement, he describes himself as an active member of the community for almost 20 years, noting that he has served on boards for the Jackson Hole Land Trust and Silicon Couloir. He’s also a volunteer ski patroller at Snow King Mountain Resort. He ran for the Wyoming House of Representatives in a write-in campaign in 2018, ran for a County Commission seat in 2022, and previously served as chair of the Teton County GOP.
“I am dissatisfied with both parties in D.C., Cheyenne, and Teton County,” Muromcew said in his announcement. “I feel I can best represent the residents of Teton County by not being beholden to either party or their platforms.”
The South Park resident said his platform is focused on reducing the high costs of living and doing business locally. He advocates for “more and better results on affordable housing by reexamining the housing mix and creating a better balance between affordable and workforce housing.” Additional priorities are water quality and supply improvements, including providing incentives to encourage West Bank septic system users to connect to local wastewater treatment systems, and updating the wastewater treatment plant located south of town.
“As a community, we cannot afford four more years of the same,” Muromcew said, later adding: “I will work to balance growth and conservation. We are a community first and a resort second.”
Eight other candidates are vying for votes to fill the three open board seats: Democrats Dr. Brent Blue, Karyn Chin and Ali Dunford; incumbents Wes Gardner, Mark Newcomb and Luther Propst; and Republicans Melchor Dylan Moore and Vicky O’Donoghue.
