JACKSON, Wyo. \u2014 Make room in the trophy case for another 1st place sweepstakes award for the Jackson Hole High School Speech and Debate Team.\r\n\r\nThe Jackson Speechies continued their strong 2019-20 season with a successful outing at the Star Valley Speech Tournament, held at Star Valley High School, January 17-18. The Jackson team, under the coaching of Londe Gagnon and Peggy Gagnon, had 18 individual final advancements and saw three competitors \u2018triple\u2019 at the tournament by placing in all three events they were competing in.\r\n\r\nJackson won the tournament by earning 90 sweepstakes points. Five schools in attended the tourney.\r\n\r\nSenior Maleah Tuttle earned double championships in Extemporaneous Speaking and Program Oral Interpretation. She went on to bring home 4th place in Impromptu Speaking.\r\n\r\nJunior Preston Harmon also brought triple threat status with his 2nd place finish in Program Oral Interpretation, 6th\u00a0place in Extemporaneous Speaking and tying for 3rd in Public Forum Debate along with his debate partner junior Josh Hansen.\r\n\r\nSophomore Will Aepli had a triumphant weekend in his three events as well. He placed 4th in Congressional Debate, 3rd in Impromptu Speaking and tied for 3rd in Lincoln Douglas Debate.\r\n\r\nMany students that were doubled entered at the tournament brought home hardware in both of their events.\u00a0Team captain Warren Levy saw success with his 3rd place finish in Extemporaneous Speaking and 2nd place finish in Lincoln Douglas Debate.\r\n\r\nSophomore Carter Worcester brought home 3rd in Congressional Debate and tied for 3rd in Public Forum Debate alongside partner, sophomore Jesiah Coates. Coates also brought home a 6th place award in Congressional Debate. Hansen placed first in Congressional Debate.\r\n\r\nSenior and team captain, Darcy Mueller continued her successful season in Extemporaneous Speaking, placing 2nd. Senior River Gayton proved her prowess in Informative Speaking with a 1st place finish. Freshman Nicole Checker placed 5th in Impromptu Speaking and sophomore Lily Briggs finished in 8th in Congressional Debate.\r\n\r\nThe Jackson team travels to Evanston\u00a0this coming weekend before returning home to host its own tournament on February 14-15.
