JACKSON, Wyo. — For those who have an empty calendar on Thanksgiving, there are options to gather with other locals if desired.

Community members are invited to the following events on Thursday, Nov. 27, and each one is free of charge. Spend the day in the holiday spirit with neighbors.

First up is the annual Jackson Hole Turkey Trot, a 5K fun run beginning at 9 a.m. Runners are encouraged to wear Thanksgiving themed attire or holiday sweaters. The top three men and women to cross the finish line will win prizes, along with those deemed “best dressed.” The untimed run will begin and end in the Stilson parking lot. Participants are encouraged to register online before the race. Turkey Trot mugs will be available with hot beverages at the finish line.

The Jackson Hole Elks Lodge will host a free turkey dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., complete with sides and dessert. All are invited to break bread together. Contact the Elks Lodge at (307) 733-1713 to volunteer at this event, which has seen up to 100 attendees in years past.

In Alpine, nonprofit Top of the Rockies is teaming up with Broulims to put on a free community Thanksgiving meal at the Donn Wooden Civic Center. Dinner will be served at 3 p.m., and televisions will be tuned to the Thanksgiving Day NFL game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys starting at 2 p.m. Instead of bringing a dish to share, attendees are asked to bring a donation for the Alpine Food Bank. For those who cannot attend, the Alpine Fire District will be coordinating deliveries of Thanksgiving dinner to anyone within 5 miles of Alpine. Call the Alpine Town Hall at (307) 654-7757 or Justin Fritz at (307) 413-5868 to request a delivery.
