WILSON, Wyo. — Strollers in Emily Stevens Park were treated to a fairy-tale-like scene over the weekend when a pair of swans floated the Snake River.

The swan duo gracefully cruised down the Snake with the snow-capped Tetons visible behind them.

Swans are an iconic species in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. According to Yellowstone National Park, the trumpeter swan is North America’s largest wild waterfowl, with a wingspan of up to eight feet. They were hunted to the brink of extinction in North America by 1930, but extensive conservation efforts have resulted in a population increase.

The duet seen in the video could be a mated pair, as swans often mate for life. A pair of convincingly lifelike artificial swans appeared next to nearby Rendezvous Park in the summer of 2023.
