WILSON, Wyo. — The fake egret that fooled some onlookers in the pond between R Park and the WY22/390 intersection has disappeared, replaced by two fake swans in the pond just across the bike path.
While trumpeter swans are a local species, the fake swans have orange bills that suggest they’re mimicking mute swans, a non-native species that is not found in Jackson Hole or Wyoming.
The placement of the swans suggests someone would have had to climb in the pond to put them there.
“I don’t have any insights as to who might be placing these,” Chris Colligan, public works project manager for Teton County, told Buckrail. “I’ve checked with WYDOT and with Teton County Parks and Recreation and they will be removed as time allows.”
Teton County has a management lease on the property and Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation (Parks and Rec) maintain and manage public access for the parcel, along with resource and recreation maintenance.
“No one shall install, remove or alter Teton County managed property without the consent of the County,” Steve Ashworth, director of Parks and Rec, told Buckrail. “Items placed on the property without the consent of the County will be removed.”
