WILSON, Wyo. — The egret in the pond between Rendezvous “R” Park and the WY22/390 intersection would be a very special sight, if it weren’t fake.
Recently, an egret has appeared in a pond on the BLM parcel south of R Park, fooling many into thinking the bird is making an appearance in Jackson Hole.
“I don’t know the history of it, or why it’s there or what it’s doing,” says Zach Andres, community conservation operations manager with Jackson Hole Land Trust.
Chris Colligan, public works project manager for Teton County, is also unaware of the reason or the people behind the fake bird.
According to the State of Wyoming, cattle and snowy egrets can be found in the state, but other species like the great egret are uncommon in this area.
Andres does point out that on the other side of the Wilson boat ramp road in R Park “there’s a real blue heron hunting in the wetlands” currently that people can view.
