JACKSON, Wyo. — At the Town Council meeting on Monday, May 18, council unanimously voted in favor of moving a grant application forward for the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) federal grant program.

This isn’t the first time the town has applied for funding from the SS4A program. In 2023, a a substantial grant was awarded to Teton County and the Town of Jackson. In 2025, however, the Town submitted an implementation grant application, which was not awarded.

Because of the benefits of the award, staff recommended on Monday to approve submitting a revised application for the 2026 fiscal year. This is the last year funding is guaranteed for the SS4A federal grant program, as it is not expected to be reauthorized by Congress in its next transportation bill, according to the staff report.

The total grant application amount being requested is $8 million for this round, which would require a 20% local match of $1.6 million.

At an April 2024 open house, the Town began to further identify areas of improvement to address the increased demand on the community’s transportation network. As a result, the Teton County/Jackson SS4A project team created an interactive StoryMap and requested public feedback to discuss projects in which to invest.

The SS4A grant application will include the approved projects from the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan development projects. The projects include: sidewalks and bike lanes on South Park Loop; intersection and Americans with Disabilities Act improvements on Snow King Avenue; potential new stop signs and crosswalk warnings on Pearl Avenue; pathways from the Calico restaurant to the Aspens with crosswalks along WY390; and improving pedestrian safety on a selection of downtown intersections on the Town of Jackson street network.

If awarded, the funding would cover various phases of project development, including designing, bidding and construction depending on current progress.
