JACKSON, Wyo. — As expected, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) has announced that it will not open on Friday, as planned, due to lack of snowfall and unseasonably warm temperatures.
In the Tuesday press release, the resort shared that it has seen 26 inches of snowfall mid-mountain, and that warm conditions have hampered snowmaking efforts, leading to “insufficient coverage to open terrain.”
“The mountain just needs a little more time, but we are monitoring conditions closely, and the forecast is favorable for both snowfall and snowmaking,” JHMR CEO Doug Pierini said via press release. “We’re making every effort to open as soon as possible and expect to announce Opening Day for our historic 60th Anniversary season soon.”
The resort is the third local ski mountain to announce a later opening date due to the lack of snowpack. Grand Targhee Resort and Snow King Mountain Resort also postponed opening until conditions improve.
“JHMR will continue its snowmaking efforts wherever possible and monitor snowfall totals in the coming days, and announce its Opening Day when conditions meet the Resort’s standards for guest and staff safety,” JHMR’s statement reads.
