JACKSON, Wyo. — The 39th Annual FCExcavation Downhill took place this weekend, hosted by the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club (JHSC) with a bit of a twist compared to previous years.

The Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club has been hosting one of the few open, non-sanctioned community downhill races since 1982. In 2020 the JHSC, in collaboration with Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR), redesigned the entire event to be a high-powered, high-caliber event celebrating the sport and community of alpine racing in Jackson Hole and beyond.

“The FCExcavation Jackson Hole Downhill ended up as a huge success for the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club (JHSC),” said Jeff Moran, Chief Marketing Officer for JHSC. “The FCE JH Downhill is a redesign of the beloved Town Downhill, which JHSC hosted at Snow King Mountain since 1982. After having to cancel the day before the start of the 2020 JH Downhill due to Covid-19, we were extremely excited to have put on a safe event for the community.”

The FCExcavation Jackson Hole Downhill is hosted on Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s Crags-to-Moran racecourse off Teton Lift, where the course runs just outside the boundary of Grand Teton National Park. The Downhill hosts skiers and snowboarders ages 12 and up as well as current and former World Cup racers. Competitors can compete in up to three of the following categories: Pro, Am, Junior, Snowboard, Telemark, and “Fat & Baggy,” where a racer’s clothes must flap in the wind and their skis must be at least 86mm underfoot.

“Mother Nature provided beautiful weather and our JHSC and JHMR race crews worked in tandem to design, set, and maintain a super fun Downhill course which challenged racers from 12 to 84 years old, including former and current World Cuppers,” Moran said. “Overall, the 2021 FCExcavation Jackson Hole Downhill was a resounding success for the JHSC as both a fundraiser and a way to celebrate the sport and community of alpine racing in Jackson Hole and beyond.”
