JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Sheriff candidate and current Teton County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) Deputy Eric Snow has been placed on administrative leave.

Snow’s last arrest before being placed on leave, according to the Jackson Hole News&Guide, was related to a DUI stop on WY22. TCSO Lt. Mark Priest told KHOL he placed Snow on leave.

Snow is currently the Republican candidate vying for the role of Teton County Sheriff, facing current Sheriff Matt Carr (running as a Democrat) and Independent candidate Chris Glenn. Due to the upcoming election, Carr told the News&Guide he did not participate in the decision to place Snow on leave.

According to the 2024 edition of the Teton County Policy Manual (see page 67), administrative leave for County employees can be paid or unpaid, and can be initiated for the following reasons:

  • Time away for a County-sponsored event
  • To recognize an exempt employee, who is not eligible for executive leave, for working at an unusually high level and/or working an unusually high number of hours above their normal work schedule, not to exceed three days in a calendar year; leave for this purpose may be approved by an Elected Official or Department Director
  • Pending completion of an investigation. In cases where no viable alternatives are available, an employee may be placed on administrative leave pending a review, investigation, or disciplinary proceeding surrounding the situation that resulted in the employee being placed on leave
  • Questions of fitness for duty
  • Preventing contact with certain employee groups or access to sensitive resources
  • To remove an employee who may be behaving disruptively and/or inappropriately pending assessment of a situation (e.g. harassment, bullying, discrimination, retaliation, theft, threats, etc.)
  • Unusual and extenuating situations that arise that do not fall under any of the other leave policies

Early voting is now open and Election Day is Nov. 3.
