JACKSON, Wyo. — Tumbleweed Creative Arts, a local hub for artists founded by its Creative Director Andrew Munz, has announced the release of a new literary and arts journal: GRANITE. The will be a ticketed event to launch the inaugural issue, Volume I: Pressure, on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m. in the Pink Garter Theatre.
The publication is “dedicated to amplifying original writing, photography and visual art from voices rooted in and around Teton County.” The name is inspired by the geologic foundation of the Tetons.
With the theme of “pressure,” contributors were asked to explore the relationship of elements held together over time, and the forces with which those things “shape individuals, landscapes and cultures throughout the Mountain West.”
“GRANITE is about creating space for voices that belong here,” said Munz in a press release. “So much of Wyoming’s creative output leaves the state in order to be seen. With GRANITE, we’re building something lasting; a place where local stories can live, be valued, and reach readers both here and beyond.”
The journal is edited by Téa Obreht. Readers of the journal can expect to read fiction, essays, poetry and visual art. Contributors are both emerging and established artists.
“Our local artists often carry the weight of complex histories, environments and identities, yet struggle to find platforms close to home,” Obreht said. “With GRANITE, the goal is to ensure that literary arts from Wyoming can thrive in Wyoming.”
