JACKSON, Wyo. — In response to the “expected long-term closure” of Teton Pass, a Special Town Council Meeting has been scheduled on Monday, June 10 at 4:10 p.m.
Council members will discuss the Highway 22 landslide, its short and long-term ramifications and possible community solutions during the meeting. The public is encouraged to attend.
Mayor Hailey Morton Levinson shared with Buckrail that the Town of Jackson is prepared to support residents in Teton County.
“I am grateful we have strong emergency management operations in place that have been activated to handle the immediate effects of this situation,” Morton Levinson said. “We will support our community members in Teton County, WY as well as Teton County, Idaho while this critical artery is impacted. Our community has a great track record of coming together in times of need, working with all the different agencies and getting information out to locals and visitors. Jackson is open and will do what we must to ease the impact on our communities and our workforce.”
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) announced on the morning of Saturday, June 8, that a landslide took out WY22 at milepost 12.8, after crews worked to construct a detour around a growing crack in the road, while also clearing debris from a mudslide at milepost 15.
“WYDOT is now reviewing a long term solution and repairs, and more information on planning efforts will be available soon,” WYDOT said in its Saturday morning update.
