JACKSON, Wyo. — A smooth election night extended into a busy Wednesday for the County Clerk’s office as Maureen Murphy and her team recounted the votes for the Teton County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees.
Results tallied Tuesday night showed an extremely close race among the four candidates: incumbent Keith Gingery had the lead with 5,428 votes (27.2% of the total), followed by newcomer Ashley Sinclair with 4,861 votes (24.35%). Incumbent Stephan Abrams was just 40 votes behind Sinclair with 4,821 votes (24.15%), and incumbent Reade Dornan was behind another 48 votes with 4,773 votes (23.91%).
Murphy confirmed to Buckrail just before 11 a.m. that the recount was underway. She noted that statute 22-16-109 (b) states that “any race with less than 1% of the number of votes cast for the winning candidate receiving the least number of votes cast for that office shall be recounted in the entire district in which the candidates stand for election.”
Ballots from across the county are being recounted. Voters might remember a similarly close race triggering a recount in 2024, when the Specific Purpose Excise Tax proposal for $88 million to construct the Teton County Justice Center was approved by an extremely narrow margin.
Stay tuned for updates as the recount is completed.
