WILSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) alerted drivers at 3:36 a.m. on Friday, June 7, that a mudslide had blocked both lanes of travel on Teton Pass.

WYDOT officially closed the pass at 4:18 a.m. The mudslide occurred near mile marker 15, near the scale house.

“Crews have been working to clear the debris, but additional material continues to flow into the roadway,” WYDOT said in a statement at 7:38 a.m. “There is no estimated time of opening.”

WYDOT noted that its crew is taking the opportunity to evaluate the temporary patchwork at mile marker 12.8, an emergency measure implemented on Thursday, June 6, when a large crack in the road was discovered. The crack led to unsafe driving conditions and closed the pass for three hours.

“Early reports indicate that there has been additional movement since the repairs yesterday,” WYDOT said in this morning’s statement. “More information will be available after a more thorough investigation can be completed. If crews deem the section of roadway unsafe for travel, the closure could continue after the cleanup of the mudslide at milepost 15.”
