JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton Disc Golf Club is hosting a community disc golf event this Saturday, June 1, at May Park in East Jackson.

The event invites community members of all ages and abilities out to the park to play the course from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Players can participate in clinics and mini-tournaments. The first 100 people to arrive will receive a free disc, courtesy of the club. There will also be discs available to borrow.

Jared Harbold, the non-profit 501(c)3 club president, says that disc golf has very few barriers to entry, especially in a town where some bikes cost as much as cars. He says the club’s goal is to bring disc golf to the community, through events and disc giveaways whenever possible.

“Disc golf is really amazing in the sense that you only need one disc and you can go out to a course and have a good time,” Harbold told Buckrail.

Both local courses, one at May Park and one at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) are free to play, and a disc set is available for check-out at the Teton County Library in the “Library of Things.”

The game is played similarly to golf, but instead of a ball and club, players try to sink a disc into each hole’s target in the fewest strokes. Players make their way down the fairway, making subsequent throws from where the disc landed last.

The club designed and built the five-hole disc golf course at May Park, which opened in September 2023, and redesigned the JHMR course, which opened in 2022.

The course at May Park is beginner-friendly but offers a challenge, even for seasoned players.

“If you don’t take yourself too seriously, you might have the most fun,” Harbold said.
