JACKSON, Wyo. — The START Bus shuttle to the Jackson Hole Airport is slated to begin service for the third winter on Dec. 13.

Town of Jackson Transit Director Michael Toronto told Buckrail that the bus route from downtown Jackson to the airport will run from Dec. 13 to April 6. The schedule has been adjusted slightly to better accommodate riders during the busiest parts of the day. START has cut out some of the shuttle trips when there are no flights landing or departing, and instead increased frequency between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to give riders a bit more flexibility.

“That will be a big improvement because instead of wasting miles and hours when no one is taking it, we’ll improve it for those that are,” Toronto said.

The airport and START will also be advertising the parking garage on the corner of Millward Street and Simpson Ave. as a place to park for those using the airport shuttle. It will be the first time the organizations have advertised in conjunction for the service.

According to Toronto, this is the final year of a three-year pilot program for the town-to-airport route. The different agencies involved will then decide how to proceed with the shuttle for the future.

“Once it’s done, I’m anticipating there will be meetings with the stakeholders — like the Travel and Tourism Board, the airport, the city, the county — talking about the future of the service,” Toronto said. “Given that it’s seasonal, we have some time to decide the outcome.”
