WYOMING – A passenger in a pickup truck traveling to South Dakota was ejected and killed in a highway accident Tuesday morning.
Mariah Handley, 38, of Rapid City, South Dakota was killed while the driver—Miranda Madsen, also of Rapid City—was treated for minor injuries.
The crash occurred at 09:04am on Interstate 25 at milepost 59, approximately 3 miles south of Chugwater, Wyoming. The vehicle was a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado truck. Handley was sitting in the rear of the pickup when the accident occurred.
Wyoming Highway Patrol responded to the call after Madsen lost traction on the ice-snow covered roadway. The truck drove off the road surface and overturned approximately three times. Handley, who was not wearing her seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.
I-25 was closed for approximately four hours with the investigation and poor road conditions. The other occupants were transported to the Platte County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
