UPDATE: WYDOT announced it had reopened the road at 10:12 a.m.
JACKSON, Wyo. — So it begins.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has closed Teton Pass in both directions due to “winter conditions and crashes westbound from Wilson to the Idaho state line,” per a driver alert issued at 9:42 a.m. The estimated opening time is unknown.

Snow fell at high elevations overnight, creating slick road conditions for WY22. WYDOT issued chain law level 1 advisories intermittently through the night; the agency also imposed a ban on trailer traffic around 11 p.m. on Monday.
The morning commute on Tuesday morning was a hairy one. Emergency pageouts indicated that traffic was backed up all the way into Victor, Idaho. Some noted that trucks and buses were sliding in the road.
The first snowfall of the season sometimes catches drivers unprepared for conditions. Revisit these reminders for driving the Pass in winter weather.
