Even if your six-year-old niece is hopping up and down at the prospect of Snow White, you may not be. But if Disney princesses aren’t really your thing, fear not; Dancers’ Workshop’s original take on the classic tale of Snow White is sweet but not saccharine.
Not only does DW’s production subvert the damsel in distress trope, the most coveted role in the production is – and we kid not – a dust mite. And if small children bringing microscopic, allergy-inducing critters to life through dance isn’t interesting enough, consider the entertainment factor provided by the princes and the dwarves.
The comically bumbling princes vie for Snow White’s attention in a giddy romp of a dance. And because almost all of them are former (or current) professional dancers, the dancing is not only funny, it’s really, really good. All animal lovers, bird-watchers and otherwise will enjoy the adorable skunks, foxes, goldfinches and fawns who scurry across the stage and are sure to melt even the frostiest heart.
