JACKSON, Wyo. — Jacksonites were treated to an unbelievable feast for the eyes on Tuesday evening when a severe geomagnetic storm fired up the northern lights over the valley.
The aurora became visible around dinnertime, allowing more skywatchers to get outside and snap photos without having to venture out in the wee hours, as some celestial events demand. Thank you so much to the readers for sending in dozens of jaw-dropping photos!

Cameras with long-exposure capabilities were working overtime last night.
Some aurora viewers found it meaningful that the lights appeared on Veterans Day.

“It’s a special salute to our veterans and service members!” reader Jim Paul emailed.

Others enjoyed sharing the display with their beloved pets. David Buth snapped this photo of his cat on their nightly walk together in East Jackson.

Lindsey Paige got a shot of her pet turkey, Stanley, “helping to do farm chores under the Northern Lights.”

Shane Gerhardt shared the sights with a dog and a horse.

Some readers had fun with silhouette possibilities offered by the aurora. Lenea Luna sent in this shot titled, “The Grand Teton Yeti.”

Local agencies and nonprofits got in on the photo frenzy, too.

Geomagnetic activity is ongoing, so photo opps could abound tonight. Good luck out there!
