JACKSON, Wyo. — Astoria Park Conservancy and Snake River Sporting Club Improvement Service District (SRSC ISD) announced on Wednesday that the two organizations have resolved a dispute stemming from a 2022 incident when a tractor-trailer crashed into the historic Astoria Bridge, knocking it out of commission for two months.
A joint press release states that the litigation was related to the allocation of costs incurred by SRSC ISD after the bridge was struck. The statement did not contain any financial specifics or terms of the agreement, but said that the decision reflects the two groups’ commitment to working together in the best interests of the broader community.
“Many members of our community have been aware of the ongoing dispute surrounding the bridge replacement,” Executive Director of Astoria Park Conservancy Dr. Quinn McColly said in the statement. “We are pleased to report that the litigation has been resolved. Working closely with our board of directors and the Snake River Sporting Club Improvement Service District, we reached an agreement that is fair and equitable to both parties.”
The bridge, which was temporarily repaired then eventually replaced and reopened in November 2024, serves as an important link to the area on the east side of the Snake River. The only other route to access the isolated area is Johnny Counts Road via Hoback Junction South Road. Bridger-Teton National Forest issued a special permit to SRSC ISD for the use of Johnny Counts Road while the Astoria Bridge was closed.
“This resolution represents an opportunity to move forward together,” SRSC ISD Board Member Joe Scott said in the news release. “We are grateful for the collaborative efforts that brought us to this point and look forward to a positive path ahead.”
