Roller derby queens blow out Bombshells ahead of next weekend’s home opening bout Jackson Rock Springs Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – If last weekend was any indication, the Bittersweet Bombshells from Rock Springs had better buckle up tight.

The Jackson Hole Juggernauts destroyed the Portneuf Valley Bruisers last Saturday, 208-84, in their season-opener in Pocatello. The local derby girls will square off against the Bombshells next weekend for the Jugg’s home opener on April 8.

Since their debut in 2012, the Juggernauts have been steadily improving, powered by the smooth-skating jammer star Rhonda Gauntlet (Tracy Denison) and the fierce competitiveness of Tammy Gunn (Erin Landry).

Last season ended with a third place finish in the Wyoming Roller Derby Cup. The Juggs went 3-2 over that weekend, beating the Bombshells twice, 241-108 and 159-137. The Juggernauts eventually lost to the Cheyenne Capidolls, 199-148, in the semifinals. The Capidolls went on to claim the championship with a win over Gillette’s Powder River Betties.

The Juggernauts are still looking for volunteers to help their first home bout of the season come off without a hitch. The queens of the flat track will skate in five home bouts this season (3 on the road) before heading to the Derby Cup in mid-July.

The April 8 bout starts at 7 pm in the Snow King Sports and Events Center. Admission is $10.
