WYOMING – Even as Rep. Liz Cheney praised the President for his efforts to build a border wall, announcing she and her fellow Republicans in the House voted to provide the funding necessary, Wyoming’s lone House rep broke ranks with Trump over troop withdrawal in Syria and a reduced presence in Afghanistan.
“Withdrawing US forces from Afghanistan would be a strategic error of historic proportions, aiding America’s adversaries and paving the way for terrorists to re-establish bases from which they can launch attacks against our nation,” Cheney tweeted yesterday. “ISIS is not defeated in Syria. Withdrawing US forces is a serious strategic error and does not serve US security interests. American retreat will aid our adversaries, Russia and Iran, and hurt our allies, including Israel.”
The statements mark the first time Cheney has had a marked departure from the current administration’s agenda. Back on November, Cheney also advised the President to not cut back on defense spending stating, “America’s troops shouldn’t have to make do with less than they were promised.”
