GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK — It’s been a dry year, and the proof is in Jackson Lake’s shrinking water levels. Those hoping to enjoy the lake this autumn will have to heed guidelines shared Wednesday by Grand Teton National Park (GTNP).

“Due to historically low water levels, Signal Mountain boat ramp will be the only ramp open to trailered watercraft” beginning Thursday, GTNP posted to social media on Wednesday. “Access from the Signal Mountain ramp is limited. Due to low water levels, launching trailered watercraft will require tow vehicle wheels to leave the paved area and drive on loose cobble substrate. Launching trailered watercraft is at your own risk.”

GTNP noted that hand-carry launching is still permitted at all boat launches in the park.

The park reminds all watercraft users that aquatic invasive species (AIS) inspections remain mandatory to protect park waters from threats like quagga, zebra and golden mussels.

The Signal Mountain AIS inspection station will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Oct. 1 through Oct. 5. After Oct. 5, GTNP will evaluate staffing and access based on lake levels and water user numbers.

“Thank you for helping protect Jackson Lake from invasive mussels and for your patience and support as we evaluate ways to provide lake access under changing conditions,” GTNP’s post concludes.
