JACKSON, Wyo. — A new wildfire has sparked on the Jackson Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF).
On Sunday night, BTNF shared that Teton Interagency Fire resources were responding to suppress the Ouzel Falls Fire, located near Ouzel Falls and the Darwin Ranch in the Gros Ventre Wilderness. At the time of the announcement, the fire was estimated to be 1/10th of an acre in size, burning in heavy timber and on steep, rugged terrain.
“Resources responding include a type 3 helicopter, wildland fire module, multiple fire engines, and firefighting personnel,” BTNF posted. “Crews are working in coordination with Darwin Ranch. Aerial resources plan to conduct water bucket drops via helicopter as weather and conditions allow, while ground crews hike in to construct containment lines and directly suppress the fire. Short haul operations may be employed to insert firefighters into terrain where traditional access is not feasible.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been shared. It was discovered about a week after the Spread Creek Fire, BTNF’s first major wildland fire of the year, was contained.
This is a developing story. Buckrail will provide updates as information becomes available.
