JACKSON, Wyo. — Firefighters have made significant progress containing the Spread Creek Fire since it was discovered last Wednesday.
The 257-acre blaze is located near Sagebrush Flat in the Spread Creek Drainage about 3 miles south of US26/287 on Bridger-Teton National Forest’s (BTNF) Blackrock Ranger District. BTNF shared on Sunday morning that the fire had reached 78% containment. By Monday morning, the National Interagency Fire Center’s map reported 87% containment.

Lower temperatures and precipitation led to minimal fire activity over the weekend, though there was some creeping and smoldering, per BTNF’s Sunday update. Approximately 164 people have been assigned to the Spread Creek incident. Resources have included a type-3 helicopter, an infrared-capable drone, four interagency hotshot crews, a type-2 initial attack crew, a type-3 engine, three type-6 engines, two suppression crews and more. Command of the fire is expected to transition back to local units today.
“Crews will continue to secure the fire area, extinguish any remaining hot spots and improve areas of constructed line as necessary,” BTNF shared Sunday.
BTNF asks the public to avoid Hatchet and Flagstaff roads while fire crews remain in the area. Drivers might encounter increased traffic on US26 near the Blackrock Ranger Station — be sure to give emergency vehicles plenty of space.
