JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Police Department (JPD) is investigating an instance of antisemitic graffiti found on the back door of a downtown business.
Employees at Mountain Glow, a skincare business on Broadway, returned to work on Sunday, July 5, to find a Star of David scrawled on the back door in black marker; inside the star was a properly oriented swastika, according to JPD Lt. Russ Ruschill. In a brief press release about the investigation, the Town of Jackson called the graffiti “a deeply concerning symbol.”
“The Town of Jackson is no place for hate,” Mayor Arne Jorgensen stated in the release. “We strive to be a community where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.”
According to Ruschill, investigators are casting a wide net, as the act is thought to have been perpetrated between the evening of July 3 and the morning of July 5. Tens of thousands of people were in the downtown corridor for the Fourth of July parade and festivities, giving JPD a massive suspect pool. Officers have been canvassing the neighborhood, talking to witnesses and asking for camera footage.
Mountain Glow was already on JPD’s radar this summer as it was the site of small protests and counterprotests; according to KHOL, demonstrators in June held signs outside of the business warning potential customers of “high pressure” sales tactics, and then shop employees held signs claiming the demonstrators had made antisemitic remarks.
