JACKSON, Wyo. — It’s going to be a scorching weekend.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an extreme heat watch for Jackson Hole and another for eastern Idaho, in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening. Jackson is currently forecast to hit 95ºF on Sunday, and Driggs is poised to hit 97ºF on Sunday.
“Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events,” NWS advised. “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.”
Jackson Hole is potentially on track for a heat wave to remember.
“Based on the current forecast, Sunday could very well end up in the top 10 for the hottest days on record in Jackson, and possibly even the top 5,” Buckrail Meteorologist Alan Smith wrote Wednesday night. “Using a blend of weather models, the high is currently projected to reach a scorching 98ºF in Jackson on Sunday afternoon.”
