WYOMING — March 19 not only celebrates the first day of Spring, but National Agriculture (Ag) Day!
Governor Mark Gordon’s Proclamation reflects on the contribution of ranchers, farmers, scientists, processors, shippers, grocers and others providing basic agricultural goods to Wyoming’s heritage, economy and quality of life. Additionally, agriculture producers conserve the soil, secure open spaces and provide wildlife habitat.
“It is fitting that we take this occasion of renewing life that occurs in the spring to acclaim and honor the vital contributions of our farmers and ranchers,” the Governor’s Office stated in the announcement.
According to Gordon, agriculture is a cornerstone of Wyoming’s financial stability, with an estimated annual impact of over $2.45 billion. In 2022, more than 11,900 farms and ranches earned more than $1.93 billion in revenue, with the majority of Wyoming’s cash receipts stemming from the marketing of livestock and livestock products.
“The efficiency and strong work ethic of our farmers and ranchers means that we spend less of our disposable income for food than people in any other country in the world,” the Proclamation states. “On average, each of these stewards of our lands provides food and fiber for people across the state, country and world.”
Nationally, Wyoming ranks eleventh in total land in farms and ranches, with 28.5 million acres dedicated to ranching and farming.
