SHERIDAN, Wyo. — A Texas man leapt to his death from a speeding car as he led officers on a high-speed chase outside of Sheridan, Wyoming on Interstate 90.

Fellow motorists called in a possible drunk driver Friday, February 21 near Sheridan. Wyoming Highway Patrol identified the vehicle and clocked it doing 97 mph in a 75 mph posted zone. As soon as the Highway Patrol trooper turned on lights and siren, the driver began taking evasive action and led the trooper on a pursuit headed east on Interstate 90.

As the trooper was pursuing the vehicle, he noticed the driver reaching out of the sunroof with his hands. Moments later, the driver pulled himself through the sunroof and jumped out of the speeding car, estimated to be traveling at approximately 80 mph at the time.

The vehicle veered off and crashed into the median cable divider. The driver was in bad shape. The trooper immediately called for an ambulance and attempted to perform CPR on the subject. Emergency Medical Services arrived a short time later and pronounced the driver deceased. The pursuit lasted around five miles.

WHP identified the driver as Marshall R. Acker, 43, of Tyler, Texas.
