Updated, 4:15 p.m.: A press release from JPD noted that the suspect is a 47-year-old male. The 500 block of South Millward Street remains an active crime scene while investigators determine appropriate charges.
Updated, 2:45 p.m.: According to Lt. Russ Ruschill of the Jackson Police Department (JPD), emergency responders were dispatched to a residence on Millward St. around 12:30 p.m. after a report of a 24-year-old local woman covered in blood standing outside the home. Cops arrived to find that a male suspect who was known to the victim had barricaded himself inside of the residence.
Investigators established no one else was inside the multiperson residence, then contained the scene and started making attempts to communicate with the suspect. Drones from the Teton County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson Hole Fire/EMS were deployed to survey the scene and communicate with the barricaded man. The victim granted cops access to the residence. The suspect indicated with thumbs up and hand gestures that he was OK with officers entering the building.
The suspect agreed to come outside after 2 p.m. He was taken to the hospital to be checked out before being detained. The victim was also being cared for at the hospital with a “good prognosis,” per Ruschill. No shots were fired in the incident, and professionals are assessing the crime scene to determine any weapons involved. The area remains closed off while investigators continue to evaluate the situation.
