BIG PINEY, Wyo. — The Horse Fire on Bridger-Teton National Forest’s (BTNF) Big Piney Ranger District has grown to 2,677 acres and continues to burn on heavy, dry timber, according to a Monday update from BTNF.

The update was labeled as the final daily update for the Horse Fire, unless notable changes in fire activity arise.

A total of 152 fire personnel are currently working to suppress the fire against warm and dry conditions. According to the update, the fire is 59% contained.

According to InciWeb, “Crews are targeting hot spots detected through infrared flights to prevent further fire spread. With winds and potential lightning in the forecast, they actively are working to address any emerging heat spots and continue suppression efforts.”

The fire was first reported on Friday, June 13. Emergency closures remain in place to keep fire crews and staff safe. The fire danger on BTNF is “high.”
