GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK — Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) has announced that teachers can sign up to bring Snow Desk, a show from the snow, to classrooms with a free virtual broadcast.
Programs run Jan. 21 to 31. Park rangers will broadcast live to classrooms from a desk made of snow located at the base of the Teton Range.
“With more than 173 inches of snow per year and temperatures as low as -63°F, wildlife of the Jackson Hole valley and GTNP have many survival challenges,” GTNP writes on its website. “During this interactive ‘talk show,’ students laugh as they learn how wildlife adapt to weather and an extreme climate.”
According to GTNP, Snow Desk has unique programs for different grade levels. Surviving Winter is recommended for Grades K through 3, where students can learn how animals in the Park change how they look, where they live and what they eat to survive winter here.
Every Snowflake Counts is recommended for Grades 3 through 5, where students can learn about the water cycle, the importance of snow and its role in the ecosystem in GTNP and beyond. This program will explore how communities conserve water resources as well.
