JACKSON, Wyo. — A month after Game Creek’s water was deemed unsafe due to the presence of E. coli, residents are again able to use water from the tap.
On Friday, June 28, the Squaw Creek Water District (SCWD), which manages Game Creek’s water supply, announced that a pipe servicing the area had tested positive for E. coli and that subsequent tests had revealed more of the bacteria. As a result, the neighborhood was placed under a boil water order.
The order was extended on July 2, as SCWD said it was working with the Environmental Protection Agency to ensure a clean water supply by injecting chlorine into the system and looking for any foreign objects that might cause contamination.
Residents received the go-ahead to use their tap water again via email on Wednesday, July 24.
“The EPA has determined that our water is ‘safe for consumption,'” the email read. “We will continue to closely monitor the water supply for the next few weeks as we transition back to normal.”
