JACKSON, Wyo. — Residents of the Game Creek neighborhood will have to continue to boil tap water or use other clean water sources for at least another week, according to an update from the Squaw Creek Water District (SCWD).
Game Creek has been under a boil water order since Friday, June 28, when SCWD, which supplies its water, revealed that unsafe levels of E. coli and coliform bacteria had been found in a pipe that feeds area homes. SCWD originally informed residents that the order would be lifted by the middle of this week, but an emailed update sent the evening of Tuesday, July 2 said the tests needed to clear the water supply will take at least another week, until Thursday, July 12 at the earliest.
Three negative tests of the distribution system, where the contamination was found, are required in order to lift the boil order. Two of those will have to wait until next week, due to the schedule of the lab running the tests, according to SCWD. Five tests of the groundwater that’s the source of the area water supply have come back negative for E. coli and coliform bacteria, an organism that indicates the presence of other, harmful bacteria.
Residents whose water comes from the SCWD are advised to boil any tap water for three minutes and let it cool before using it for drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, washing dishes or preparing food. The district is also providing clean water from a tank located at the entrance to the Game Creek subdivision.
