JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Gubernatorial Candidate Foster Friess announced his appointment of John Spina as director of communications for his campaign.

Spina is an award-winning political journalist from the Jackson Hole News&Guide. He has spent the last two and half years covering the Wyoming State Legislature. Prior to moving to Wyoming, Spina covered city and state government for the New York Daily News while earning a masters in journalism from the City University of New York.

Spina says his decision to work for the Friess campaign was driven by a belief that Friess’ connections in Congress, as well as the White House, can progress issues of state control—particularly in terms of land management and health care—while using his business expertise to help diversify Wyoming’s economy.

“Foster’s national connections offer Wyoming a real chance to curtail federal intervention,” Spina said. “Not only can he use these contacts to diversify the state’s economy, bringing existing Wyoming business to new markets around the world as well as enticing new businesses to set up shop here, but his investment skills will also improve the state’s portfolio to further stabilize the budget. He’s exactly what Wyoming needs right now.”

The relationship was formed after an interview Spina did with Friess for his paper.

“I was so impressed by his understanding of complex issues facing the state and local governments and his ability to simply articulate them, I offered him the job of director of communications, the day after the article ran,” Friess admitted. “I was amazed at the depth of knowledge and the intelligence of his questions that he threw at me. I knew I had to hire him.”
