Jackson, WYO – You may have noticed a “nip in the air” the last few mornings and believe it or not we are at the end of August. With shorter days and cooling temps comes the first snowfall of the season. While some welcome the seasonal change with open arms others will cling to the last bits of summer and get every last ray of sunshine while they can.

Powderchasers.com reports that “2-4 inches of snowfall above 8,000 feet in central or southern regions is likely by early Monday morning. Models show the heaviest precipitation will fall in the southern regions of Montana along the Wyoming border. It is likely that you will be waking up Monday morning to a fresh coating of snow at many mountain tops.”

“The northern mountains of Wyoming will also benefit somewhat with lesser amounts further south. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will see higher snow levels around 9,000 feet late Sunday night and Monday (Light snow at mountain tops).”

The snow will not be around for long with warming temps forecasted for later in the week.

The National Weather Service records indicate that Riverton holds the record in Wyoming for earliest recorded snowfall accumulation in a populated area. On Sept. 6, 1929, Riverton received 3 inches of snow.
