JACKSON, Wyo. — In a night dedicated to celebrating the remarkable impact of early childhood educators, Charlotte Souter and Diane McGee were recognized for their exceptional contributions to the community at this year’s EMpowerED: Celebrating the Power of Early Childhood Educators symposium. Held at The Lodge at Jackson Hole, the event highlighted the dedication and innovative approaches of educators who make a profound difference in young lives.
Charlotte Souter, recipient of one of the Elite Educator Awards, has been an instrumental figure in the Teton County School District’s Grizzlies program. Known for her thoughtful approach to learning, Charlotte creates a welcoming and dynamic environment where each child feels valued. Her curriculum is diverse and engaging, incorporating hands-on projects and activities that allow children to explore their interests and develop essential social and emotional skills. A parent noted, “Charlotte takes each child’s passion and lets it to soar. When my son showed interest in birds, she went above and beyond by collaborating with the local raptor center, arranging visits and even planning a school-wide assembly about birds of prey. Her dedication made his love for learning blossom.”

Charlotte’s commitment extends to family involvement, ensuring that parents feel included in their child’s educational journey. She maintains daily communication with families, sending updates on classroom activities and sharing student progress. One parent shared, “Charlotte is so approachable and attentive. She values our input and finds ways to incorporate our ideas into her teaching. I always feel heard and appreciated as part of my child’s learning experience.”
Through her thoughtful teaching style, Charlotte helps children develop confidence, empathy, and a love for learning. “Charlotte fosters a community where kindness and respect thrive,” another parent added. “She empowers each child to grow at their own pace, supporting them through challenges and celebrating their successes. She truly embodies what it means to be a champion for children.”
Diane McGee, recipient of one of the Elite Educator Awards, founded Tiny Explorers Preschool in 2020 based on her deep love for the outdoors and passion for experiential learning. Diane’s program encourages children to develop a connection to nature and teaches them to be responsible stewards of the environment. Her nominator shared, “Diane has instilled a love of learning and adventure in our son. He can now hike and enjoy the outdoors in ways we can’t even begin to match. Diane taught him to ‘be kind, be respectful, and have fun’—a philosophy that he carries with him every day.”

Diane’s approach to education extends beyond the classroom. She is known for her open communication with parents, often hosting events and workshops that bring the entire community together. One parent recalled, “Diane’s dedication is remarkable. From organizing enriching field trips to teaching children problem-solving skills, she goes above and beyond to support not just the students but also their families. She even provided comfort and reassurance to me as a working mom, showing that her care for the community is truly boundless.”
Diane’s unique approach to outdoor education has left a lasting impact on families across Jackson. Her passion and tireless work have made Tiny Explorers a beloved part of the community, where children are not only taught to thrive independently but to appreciate the natural world around them.
Both Charlotte Souter and Diane McGee embody the spirit of early childhood education, inspiring curiosity, resilience, and kindness in the young children they teach. Their awards at the EMpowerED symposium highlight the profound impact that dedicated educators have on the lives of children and families. The community is grateful for their passion, commitment, and vision in shaping the future, one young mind at a time.
