JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Board (JHTTB) is sharing the latest draft of the Sustainable Destination Management Plan (SDMP) with the community in an open meeting tonight.
Individuals can attend the meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Lupine Room at the Cloudveil Hotel, or they can livestream the meeting at this link. The meeting will be recorded and available to view until Nov. 29. The public can make comments in-person tonight, or on the website until Nov. 30.
Sharing this draft of the SDMP is the fourth stage in JHTTB’s year-long effort to balance community needs with a tourism-based economy. The fifth and final stage, slated to launch early next year, is implementing the plan.
JHTTB Vice Chair Crista Valentino told Jackson Hole Community Radio (KHOL 89.1 FM) that the plan is “pro-community” and not “anti-tourism.”
“It’s not a prescription,” Valentino told KHOL. “Rather, we see it as a framework that says, we hear you, we’re going to do things differently, and now it’s going to take a little bit of time figuring out how to implement it and what it looks like. But now we have a pathway that’s going to help get us there.”
Tonight’s meeting will include a presentation from those responsible for developing the SDMP, including academic leaders from George Washington University and Confluence Sustainability, and individuals, businesses, community leaders and elected officials will have the opportunity to join smaller focus groups discussing specific topics in the plan.
With the plan’s finalization set for Dec. 23, 2022 and a goal to implement the plan for the next five years, this will be the last chance for public comment on sustainable tourism in the Tetons.
