YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Yellowstone National Park (YNP) announced on Friday, May 22, that Dunraven Pass, the road connecting Canyon Village and Tower Fall within the park, has opened to visitors for the season.

All of YNP’s roads are now open to visitors for the summer season, the park said. The South Entrance, the closest park entrance for Jacksonites, opened on May 8. Temporary closures are possible due to spring weather, so keep Yellowstone’s park roads website bookmarked.

The opening of Beartooth Highway (US212) has been delayed due to snow; it is tentatively scheduled to open on Saturday, May 23. Typically it opens for the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. Chief Joseph Scenic Byway (WY296) appears to be open — check its status on the Wyoming Department of Transportation website before setting out.

YNP reminds visitors that park services are still limited in the spring. See the park’s operating dates site for specifics.

Visitors should also be vigilant about spring wildlife behavior, when bison, elk, bears and other animals are likely to use roads to travel through the park. Stay at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves, and 25 yards from all other wildlife. Carry bear spray and know how to use it.
