YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — A Yellowstone National Park (YNP) visitor was sentenced to 10 days of incarceration after pleading guilty to a suite of driving-related offenses, according to a Monday announcement by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Wyoming.
On June 3, 31-year-old Timothy Steury II of Eugene, Oregon, pled guilty to: refusing to submit to an official breath test after being stopped by law enforcement and suspected of driving while impaired; contempt of court for refusing to comply with a validly issued warrant for his blood; and speeding.
Steury, who got credit for 6 days previously served, was also placed on 2 years of unsupervised probation, including a ban on visiting YNP for that period. He was ordered to pay $1,060 in fines and court costs, as well. The Attorney’s Office noted that his refusal of the breath test was reported to the state that issued Steury’s driver’s license.
The sentence was imposed by U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephanie A. Hambrick in Mammoth. Last month, another man from Oregon was convicted by a federal jury for assaulting a YNP employee last year by driving into the employee with his Jeep.
