WILSON, Wyo. — Firefighters have contained the Phillips Fire, which was first reported early Tuesday morning, according to a fire update on Facebook by Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF).

The blaze is estimated to be a half-acre in size, located on Phillips Bench near Teton Pass on BTNF’s Jackson Ranger District. Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer captured footage of the firefighting crews using a type 1 helicopter to suppress the flames with a water drop.

“Bridger-Teton North Zone fire staff, Teton County, and Caribou-Targhee Helitack crews engaged the fire and over 30 firefighters cut line to stop forward progression,” BTNF posted Tuesday afternoon.

BTNF asks the public to avoid the Phillips Bench trail area in order to allow crews to have quick access to the fire. Other emergency vehicles will be present on Teton Pass, and drivers are asked to be aware and drive slowly. Any visible smoke in the area should not be reported.
