JACKSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Office of Tourism (WOT) is inviting both residents and visitors to celebrate the Cowboy State on March 7, 307 Day, by sharing photos of Wyoming experiences.
307 Day is also known as Wyoming Pride Day. According to a joint press release from the WOT and Governor Mark Gordon’s Office, this day is meant to honor Wyoming’s one-and-only 307 area code that spans the entire state, from all four corners.
Wyomingites and visitors alike are being asked to show their love for the state by participating in favorite Wyoming experiences, whether it’s shopping at a favorite local store, enjoying a meal at a favorite restaurant, sipping on locally crafted spirits, visiting a go-to spot in the great outdoors or exploring a new one; then, share a photo from the Wyoming adventure on social media using the hashtags #ThatsWY and #307Day, and tag the location where it was taken.
For a fun twist, filters and stickers available on Instagram and Snapchat by searching “307day” in the Instagram sticker library and adding to stories or reels.
According to a County 17 report, Wyoming’s 307 area code is one of the nation’s original 86 area codes that was assigned by the Bell Telephone company in 1947. Today, Wyoming is one of just 11 states with only one area code, along with Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota and Vermont.
However, Wyoming Public Service Commission Chairman Chris Petrie told County 17 that the North American Numbering Plan Administrator projects that a second area code will become necessary in Wyoming in late 2040.
