CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Gov. Mark Gordon’s office has announced the appointment of Wyoming Attorney General Bridget Hill to the Wyoming Supreme Court, effective May 28.
Hill will fill the vacancy left by Chief Justice Kate Fox, who is retiring.
“With her retirement, Chief Justice Fox leaves a singular legacy,” Gordon said in the announcement. “Her tenure has set high standards for the Supreme Court, making this selection from three well-qualified candidates particularly challenging. After careful consideration, I chose General Hill because she possesses a deep and original understanding of both Wyoming and Constitutional law. She has dedicated her legal career to public service and has proven her ability to examine issues from all perspectives. She reflects a level of integrity that is as valuable as it is admirable.”
Hill was sworn in as the state’s 38th Attorney General in 2019 after being appointed by Gordon, according to her state biography. Originally from Saratoga, Wyo., Hill holds bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Wyoming. She previously worked as an assistant attorney general, as the Director of the Office of State Lands and Investments and as a staff attorney for Wyoming Supreme Court Justices Larry Lehman and Michael Golden.
“I am honored by the Governor’s decision to select me for this position, as I have tremendous respect and reverence for the work of the Wyoming Supreme Court,” Hill said in the announcement. “Chief Justice Fox leaves tremendously big shoes to fill. … I will do my best to continue the great work of the Court.”
Hill was one of three nominees being considered for the position, selected from an applicant pool by the Judicial Nominating Commission, according to Gordon’s office. The Commission is composed of three State Bar-elected attorneys, the Chief Justice of the Wyoming Supreme Court and three non-attorney members appointed by the Governor.
