WILSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) alerted drivers that the Teton Pass had closed in both directions at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 6.

“Wilson – ID State Line: Closed in both directions due to road damage [at] milepost 12,” the text alert read. “The estimated open time is unknown.”

An update from WYDOT came at 11:49 a.m.

“Crews were notified that the road had faulted, creating a large crack across both lanes of travel,” the update reads. “The crack across the lanes has dropped vertically roughly eight inches in some places, causing unsafe driving conditions.”

WYDOT’s maintenance crews are working to provide a temporary patch. The agency’s geology department is going to investigate the cause of the fracture and recommend remedial action.

There is still no estimated re-opening time. Crews will be working to open the road as soon as possible, WYDOT said. WYDOT asks drivers to avoid the area if possible.
