JACKSON, Wyo. — Slow Food in the Tetons says it will hold Winter People’s Market this Saturday, March 14 from 1-4 p.m. but not without several precautionary measures in place. They have transformed the event into a place where concerned shoppers can fill their pantries with trusted food sources.

“We would like to inform you of the following actions we are taking to minimize risk from the spread of and exposure to COVID-19 (coronavirus) at [our event] at the Lodge at Jackson Hole Conference Center on Broadway,” organizers said. “We plan to hold a modified and streamlined version of the market, with a goal of providing access for the community to stock up on locally-produced, nutritious food and support local food producers, while implementing precautionary measures to protect vendors, shoppers, staff, and volunteers.”

In following the lead of community leaders to prioritize “social distancing” as a mitigation measure for the COVID-19 outbreak, all social aspects of the market including the Kids Corner, live music, and food service will be eliminated from the event. The market will also be streamlined so that the focus will be on stocking up on food supplies.

Slow Food is also asking the community (shoppers and vendors) to not attend the market if they are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19, or if they have any reason to believe that they may have been exposed to COVID-19, including recent travel to known hotspots both within and outside the US.

“We are also asking the community to minimize shopping time in the market, and treat it as a special grocery shopping opportunity to stock up on local and regional produce, beef, pork, chicken, cheeses, dairy, veggies, fermented foods, frozen soups, baked goods, and more,” organizers stated.

Here are some of the precautions that we will be taking at this Saturday’s Winter People’s Market:

  • Volunteer at the entry door to remind people to immediately go to the restroom and wash their hands before (and after) shopping.
  • Hand sanitizer offered throughout the market (until it runs out).
  • Frequent cleaning of high-touch areas.
  • Streamline vendor attendance with a focus on food shopping.
  • Vendors, staff, and volunteers will wear gloves whenever able.
  • No eating at the market – (to go, refrigerated or frozen prepared food will be available), no food samples.

If you ordered salmon through our Pride of Bristol Bay Spring Salmon Stock-Up, you must pick-up your box Saturday between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Lodge of Jackson Hole Conference Center parking lot.
